6 Months, 14 Days

I went in to the orthodontist yesterday for my seventh adjustment. Not much to report, only that I might be getting my upper archwire off in two months! Here's hoping! That would be fabulous! He's not promising anything though. Fair enough. I think it will be about four more visits or months until they're completely off.

Look at how pretty those chompers are looking!

I'm not sure if I got new archwires because the orthodontist didn't say he was putting new ones in, but he may have. I got all my ligatures or modules (whatever) changed this time to clear pearl ones, which I am happy about, and I got a powerchain again put on my upper front four teeth. Before doing so, again, he used what I remember this time as an interproximal something (trimmer or file, maybe) to shave off a bit between all my four front teeth on top and bottom.

This photo shows just how far I can push my upper teeth beyond my bottom. It's not my natural bite. Quite significant considering I couldn't imagine my uppers going in front of my lower teeth.

I was concerned last month about one of my front teeth wearing away a little due to it apparently coming into contact with a lower bracket. You might be able to see it on my left front tooth in the third photo of the second group, looking like two little bumps shaped (miraculously) like the bracket below.

I went in and saw a different orthodontist back then, because mine wasn't available, and he said that he thought there wasn't anything to worry about. When I saw my orthodontist yesterday, he also said that there wasn't anything to worry about, and that the wear was already there before I got braces. I know it wasn't. I know my teeth and have photos to show that it wasn't.

It is minimal though, and he said that we would even the teeth out a little when treatment is done. I don't want my teeth leveled out and straightened too much to make them look unnatural. Nevertheless, I'm not happy about it. If it gets worse, I will bring it up again.

My smile is looking great. Nothing too much different to usual, though. I'd love just to have the braces off and be done with it. I want it now!

Everyday though, I just think to myself that I'm getting closer to my goal, and that helps me see why it's all worth it. Make yourself hella-ugly to be hella-pretty, ironic.

I'm pretty lucky that I'm wearing them for what is apparently going to be a relatively short amount of time, so I should be happy with that alone. I can't wait to have them off and smile all day long!

Your teeth look so great! Can't believe how close you are... so exciting!
I hope that the wearing of your teeth your noticing doesn't become significant. Although when my friends have had their teeth leveled and built up in the end I haven't been able to tell.

I'm now five months in. Starting to get impatient again which is really bad but I swear there has been no change in the last couple of months - but you know they say you dont notice it so fingers crossed im just not noticing it :p

I havent asked you this before and sorry if you've already covered this but you didnt have teeth extractions did you?
And have you always had ligatures on your ceramic braces?

Once again congrats on your progress :)
I gotta say your braces look pretty good.. you know.. for braces haha! I dont get pearly coloured elastics etc at my ortho. bummer.

    Good luck :)

  3. Gingerbreadzz, thanks a lot! It's so nice to get compliments on something which is the bane of my current existence. I can't wait until they're off either.

I'm just a tad annoyed that, for one, my teeth are becoming a little worn, and mainly that my orthodontist is denying this fact. I hope that in the end, all will work out though.

It's great that you're 5 months in! That's quite the achievement! I, too, am not really noticing any major changes. I just hope that they are happening!

Don't fret about asking questions! I'm happy to cover anything you may ask.

I didn't have any teeth extracted, thankfully! My teeth were in pretty good shape to begin with.

I've always had ligatures (or modules as my clinic seems to refer to them by) on my braces. They aren't really negotiable. I think all traditional braces, besides the Damon system, require ligatures? Otherwise the arch wires wouldn't stay in place.

I haven't always had the power chain (pseudo-ligature), though. This is the second time I've had it changed. The elastics (which aren't pictured) are worn for half a day, which I wear at night now. I've had them from the beginning of my treatment, but I wore them on a full-time basis initially.

The pearly coloured elastics are just that, they're clear but they have a whitish, pearly glow to them. They fade well with wear which is good and also don't actually stain as much as clear elastics.

Dawn Marie, thank you, as always! Always making me smile. I hope your treatment is treating you well, also!

  4. Haha. I know exactly what you mean with the whole bane of your existence thing. I feel the same way.. believe me :/ Which is so bad, because I have so long to go. Although my teeth honestly weren't that bad either.
It's been a bit of a journey so far. Not just for my teeth. I know its a bit vain for me to care about having braces so much but I think (well .. hope) I stop caring and the whole thing will be worth it :)

Wierd. I haven't had ligatures on one row of my ceramics. I got told I didn't need them. I will have to ask :S

Thanks for the response and again great to see how well your treatments going!

  5. That's really odd that you don't have ligatures on your ceramics. How does the archwire stay in place? Unless they're threaded through some how?

I just keep thinking that it'll be worth in in the end, and that's the most important thing, no matter how long it'll take.

  7. Thank you! That's the natural colour of my lips actually, nude in their best form!

Maybe they look differently in person?

My lips are quite the colour in real life, I have to say. I always got in trouble for looking like I was wearing lipstick throughout school!
